Third wave: Seven COVID-19 related deaths, 637 new cases reported across 18 states, FCT

Lagos, the Federal Capital Territory and 17 other states reported 637 new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday, according to figures released on Thursday by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control.

The health agency also reported seven COVID-19 related deaths. 

The NCDC disclosed this on its official website on Thursday.

According to the agency, the 637 new cases were recorded from Lagos, the FCT and 17 other states.

Lagos recorded the highest number of new infections with 322 cases, Rivers – 70, Edo – 54, Delta – 34, Akwa Ibom – 31, Kwara – 31, FCT – 29, Ekiti – 17, Ogun – 14, Osun – 10, Kebbi – 8, Cross River – 5, Plateau – 3, Taraba – 3, Kaduna – 2, Bayelsa – 2 while Benue, Enugu, and Kano reported a single case each. 

The health agency said the 637 new COVID-19 infections have brought the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the country to 188,880.

However, 169,382 COVID-19 patients have recovered and have been discharged in the country, the agency said.

With seven COVID-19 related deaths reported, the death toll from the virus has risen to 2,288, NCDC said.

It added that a multi-sectoral national Emergency Operations Centre, activated at Level 2, had continued to coordinate the national response activities.
