Again, gunmen attack Imo police station; 5 killed

Officers of the Imo State police command have killed three persons suspected to be members of the proscribed IPOB/ESN group.

This was confirmed by the state police PPRO, Michael Abattam.

Abattam said scores of the gunmen attempted to attack Izombe Police Station on Friday but met with greater firepower.

He said the gunmen after they sighted the police began shooting until they were subdued.

He added that some of the criminals scampered into the bush with gunshot wounds after three of them were killed.

Abattam noted that ammunition were also recovered from the criminals.

However, two police officers were killed during the attack.

CSP Abattam, however, called on residents of the community and Imo State to assist with credible information that will lead to arrest of the fleeing criminals.

He noted that people seen treating bullet wounds also should be reported to the police.
